How we select the ten

The four checks behind every Brisbane 10 list: focus on the job, customer reviews, current details and the suburbs each business serves.

Every Brisbane 10 list is built the same way, whether it covers electricians, dentists or yum cha.

  1. Focus on the job

We look at what each business really does. A split-system installer is not a ducted air specialist, and a general practice is not a skin cancer clinic, so each is judged in the category where it actually works.

  2. What customers say

A high score needs enough reviews to back it up: 4.9 stars from a handful of customers says less than 4.6 from several hundred. Beyond the numbers, the comments tell us about punctuality, fair quotes and how complaints got sorted.

  3. Details you can use

Address, phone number, hours and website need to be current. If a business looks shut or can’t be reached, it stays out.

  4. Where in Brisbane

We note the suburb and, where it matters, the areas a business travels to. A tradie based in Logan who also works the southside is handy for someone in Mount Gravatt, much less so for someone in Redcliffe.

Up to ten, and revisited

The strongest ten go on the list, in order. If only six deserve it, the list has six. We return to every list to remove what has closed and add businesses that have earned a place.

Before you book

Ask for a written quote for any trade work, check that builders and trades hold a QBCC licence where the job needs one, and in storm season ask how soon someone can really come out.
